Windows, Doors and a New Kitchen for an Essex Barn Conversion
Working with a company that can manage all the different elements of a complex project was a major benefit for Julia and Peter when they were creating a new kitchen in their timber barn conversion in Essex.
The couple had bought their home five years ago when it was used as offices and changed it for residential use, engaging Hall Brothers to make a number of bespoke windows and external doors.
When it came to the kitchen, they knew they needed specialist help to maximise the shape of the room which also has a sloping ceiling.
“I worked with Philip to discuss ideas which we changed and tweaked with the help of CAD design until it was right,” remembers Julia. “He was very good at listening to what we wanted and then reproducing it on the plans.
“Kitchens involve many different tradespeople at varying stages of the project and although I had managed building work in the past, I was keen to have one company who could handle this scheduling for us. It was a major benefit that Hall Brothers can carry out building work as well as joinery and call in other trades as required.
“Even with such meticulous planning, early on we discovered that the floor was not stable and needed rebuilding before we could proceed. This was managed carefully and the project progressed to plan.
“With such a limited and awkward room, we needed to use every inch of space and Hall Brothers were able to create full-height cabinets that fitted the sloping ceiling perfectly.
“Even with the slight delay over the floor, the project was completed within the agreed timeframe and we are delighted with the result. We have a large island with breakfast bar and also a deep window with a window seat which I particularly wanted as a feature in the room. It’s a lovely space and very much the heart of our home.”
